Downtown Oakland is not only in the heart of central Oakland, it is also located in the geographical epicenter of the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
It is easily accessible by multiple modes of transportation including train (BART and Amtrak), Bus (AC Transit), Ferry (San Francisco Bay Ferry), Bike Share, and of course, by Uber or taxi as well.
Once here, it is very easy to explore by foot, bike or by our Free Broadway Shuttle that runs along the Broadway Corridor from Jack London Square to Uptown with stops at all of the great sub-districts in between.
From Lake Merritt to the East, Old Oakland to the West, Jack London waterfront to the South, and the Uptown Arts & Entertainment District to the North, there is so much to do and so much to discover. There really is no place quite like downtown Oakland! No matter where you go you will find that Craft Is A Way Of Life: from art to architecture, dining to nightlife, and shopping to entertainment, there is much to see and even more to do.
The Oakland Central website highlights and celebrates the many great offerings our thriving downtown has to offer such as taking a gondola ride on Lake Merritt, renting a kayak or a bike at Jack London Square to explore the waterfront, enjoying a craft beer at one of our amazing outdoor beer gardens, eating at one of our world class restaurants, catching a concert at one of the local live music venues, touring some of our fabulous art galleries including the newly renovated Oakland Museum of California, tasting wines along the Urban Wine Trail, or simply hanging out and enjoying the weather in one of our great public squares while sipping on a locally brewed coffee or tea. The choices are endless!
Just like our beloved, World Champion Golden State Warriors, who have their practice facilities in the heart of our downtown, Downtown Oakland is truly “A Great Time Out!”
