History
Established in 1897.

In 1897 Giovanni Battista Ratto, an Italian immigrant, bought and began operation of a grocery store featuring food products imported from around the world. Forty years later, in 1937, G.B.’s son-in-law, Martin Durante Sr., moved the store up the street to its current location. In succeeding years, Martin’s son, Martin Jr., took over the operation of the store and it became a favorite of Bay Area chefs and food lovers. It has remained in the family and is now owned and operated by Elena Durante, G.B.’s great-granddaughter. Customers have come to know Ratto’s Market & Deli as their own door to the cuisines of the world.
