On Memorial Day Monday May 30, the annual Jamaican Jerk Cook Off invites eight teams to square off with their unique version of jerk to impress attendees. Entertainment includes live music and a live Sepak Takraw tournament, MC ~ Greg Bridges of KCSM, steel pan music, awesome feat of athleticism in a combination of soccer, volleyball, acrobatics, and martial arts delivered by members of the Men’s USA National Sepak Takraw team. While the grown-ups enjoy a visit to the Rum Shack or grab a craft beer, the kids get to hang at the Kids zone which will offer opportunities to play the beautiful game with MYS coaches and Teen Mentors.

Q. What was the inspiration behind the event?
The money raised from the event will allow My Yute Soccer to continue on their mission. Since 2008, My Yute Soccer has provided a one-week soccer camp each summer to 70 children at Oakland Technical High School, at no cost to parents or participants. It has since grown to offer additional camps each year along with a Teen Mentor program.
